I was born in Louisville Kentucky in 1951 and spent most of my childhood at Cardome, a Catholic boarding school located in Georgetown, Kentucky. Cardome is situated on the Elkhorn Creek and at that time contained approximately 87 acres of land and farm animals. There I found the outdoors to provide more than just bike riding or roller skating on hot concrete sidewalks; the creek and open fields were wonderful places full of adventure. Some people can't stand the smell of mown grass, but I love it. I believe my Cardome experiences spawned my interest in the world of nature.

Observing the visible signs in nature revealed, transformed and renewed, the brilliance of light and color; the textures and shadows across the landscape all awaken within me a desire to share my experience.

My city scapes are about the empty streets at night. I find them fascinating and disquieting. The street lights and store fronts create a hierarchy of texture, light and shadow unlike the perceptions I find in nature and natural light. While various urban areas recede into the darkness, little areas of artificial light glow with anticipation.

I returned to school to pursue a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in drawing and painting which I received from the Hite Art Institute at the University of Louisville in 2005. Since shortly after graduation I have been represented by B. Deemer Gallery in Louisville, Kentucky.

After working alone from my home studio for awhile, I experienced a desire for the exchange of ideas, the excitement and feedback offered by The Plein Air Painters of Kentucky, which I joined in January 2008.
